Seal problem on the Igloo Cooler 1 Year, 5 Months ago

After the maiden batch with my new igloo cooler setup, I realized I need to do something about the seals on the ball valve spigot. I used the kit supplied which included two rubber o-ring seals, one for interior wall and one for the exterior wall. The outside wall was tightened with a large flat nut. When I first filled the hot liquor tank cooler, there was a nasty leak that was made usable with just another half turn of the outside nut but both coolers are tightened as much as I dare and still there was some leakage. For anybody else using this setup, what do you use to seal these up?

While I don't have this kit, I've had problems with similar valves before. I can't guarantee it will work, but I went to my local hardware store and got a thicker o-ring seal. the added thickness provided enough pressure to seal. Again, not sure if it will work for you, but it would probably only cost a couple dollars to test it out. Best of luck.
also, with any liquid seal, you may want to use some teflon tape on the threads if you haven't done so already

Post edited by: Devon, at: 06/18/2007 19:59

Also, if you don't plan on removing the valve, you can seal the outside with silicon gel. Works great and airtight and liquid tight.
