I didn't follow your initial advice Jeff. I didn't have a blow off tube, or the patience to wait until I got one to brew my Belgian Whitbier. Fermentation has been very active the past couple of days (brewed 3 days ago) and the yeast has actually bubbled into the airlock, and some even out of the airlock... It's kind of a sticky mess, but the carboy is sitting on a towel, so I'm not concerned with that. My concern is that somehow the yeast coming up through the airlock will be able to transmit some sort of infection into the batch. All the water in the airlock now is a yeasty mess. The bubbling looks like a child blowing into a straw in a glass of milk. Should I be concerned? Remove the airlock, clean everything and put it back on? Don't touch it? Smelled delicious while brewing, I'd hate to spoil this batch.
