Weyerbacher Insanity 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 3
This brew came out a few years ago. I saw the bottle and all it read was "ale aged in oak barrels". Hmm, I'm always for a good barrel aged brew so I got one. Did some research on it first before consuming. Come to find out it's their Blithering Idiot Barleywine (which is phenominal in it's own right) aged in oak bourbon casks. It's wonderful. Heavy bodied mouth feel, very creamy. With tons of malt flavor as well as oak, bourbon and vanillia with just a slight boozy finish. This is one of those brews I instantly fell in love with upon first sip right from a tulip glass. It falls in at 11.1% ABV and chilled to 45-50 degrees seems to be optimal drinking temp.

Enjoy!

Nice I can't recall if I've had this or not. Jeff, you wanna chime in here since you seem to remember which beers I've had better than I do?

I don't believe that either of us have had it. What can I say, I just have a memory for those things. But I've had the Blasphemy, the barrel aged Quad. Quite good, as is their normal Quad. Only thing I ask is put style on there! Something more than "ale aged in oak barrels" at least... please? I dig what they're doing in barrels over at Weyerbacher, though, for sure! Some good stuff.

It's wonderful. I've had pretty much everything Weyerbacher has done. Their Double Simcoe IPA is AWESOME. Their Quad is pretty good and their barrel aged Quad, Prophecy I believe, was good too. I mean I guess I can kind of see where they might of thought the "mystery effect" was a good idea, but in more cases then not, I would rather have as much info as possible. I mean I bought them to try of course simply because, one I try and sample as many beers as possible, and two I love barrel aged brews, but yeah I agree. I had no notion at all what is was going to really taste like. To tell you the truth, I didn't expect Insanity to be a barrel aged barley wine and I certainly did not expect prophecy to be a barrel aged Belgian Quad that's for sure.

I think Blasphemy, the Barrel Aged Quad, actually says it's a barrel aged quad on the label. Prophecy is the Merry Monks Trippel barrel aged... and it doesn't say what it is.

Yes you are right. As soon as you said that, I pictured the monk with the wide eyed look and hand over his mouth. I have not had that one. The prophecy is the barrel aged trippel with the chalace on the front and it just says ale aged in oak barrels.

Your beermory is superior!

It's really quite sad... if I had HALF the memory that I have beermory, life would be way easier!
