Double the Bastard
For those that like Arrogant Bastard, you NEED to do yourself a favor and find some of these.
I'll be returning to my liqour store to pick up a case of these. At the time I just grabbed a few 22oz bottles.
Almost identical IMO to Arrogant Bastard, except just double everything. Definitely more hops, more malt and more alcohol, except the alcohol is hidden surprisingly well. Its at 10% if i remember correctly.
Gonna have to move some of my 11th's around to make more room

I'm probably going to go against most people's opinions here, but that's ok. Arrogant Bastard just has never been my fav. I will say that the original oaked aged version was very tasty though. That being said a lot of people do like this beer, and I do like the double better than regular.

Yeah, ever since my 21st birthday when I first tried Arrogant Bastard, I never really liked it. Oaked I liked for a while, but haven't really enjoyed it since they switched to the 6-packs. I do, however, enjoy the Double Bastard. Especially with a little age on it. It's bigger, but somehow it's much more rounded out. I'll probably grab one or two, depending on the price.

Not going against my opinion, I couldn't agree more with Arrogant Bastard being meh. I've had Arrogant Bastard, Oaked, and Dubbel without getting excited about any of those beers. But people seem to love them...........Stone IPA, Ruination, Smoked Porter, Old Guardian, Vertical, Epics, oh boy! Those are some of the best beers on the planet imo.

I've yet to try the RIS but want to. I just have yet to see it around here.
And yea, the 11th, Ruination, IPA, etc are all great beers. Even the Levitation is a great beer. I think I can say that I havent found anything from Stone that I didnt like.

I guess I'll throw my two cents in here. We just started carrying Stone products a couple months ago. The first time around I got to sample their Pale Ale (very good), IPA (very good), Runination IPA (outstanding) as well as both their Arrogant Bastard and Oaked Arrogant Bastard. I thought the Arrogant Bastard was very good, but not great. A little rough around the edges and maybe that's what they are going for judging by the wonderfully written saga on the back of the bottle. The Oaked version I liked better. Since is was aged, the hop bitterness mellowed out and it was much more balanced.
We just started getting the Double Bastard in last week and I got to sample it. I found it to be quite tasty. Definitely my favorite so far. It was so well balanced and so refined, I decided to buy a case of it.
Hopefully we'll start being able to get more of their brews in the near future. A friend of mine from up north keeps raving about their RIS and how it's going to put my Old Rasputin, Yeti, Storm King, The Czar, Peg Leg and Siberian Night to shame. I have my doubts as that is quite the list to one up, but can't wait to try it out.
Hopefully we'll be able to acquire some of their ann. ones as well.

I too agree and think that Arrog. Bast. is probbalt the more overrated beer out there IMO...but I had the double bastard a couple weeks ago and loved it! Its a lot smoother this year, but obv. packs a punch. I went out and bought another one, so take what you will out of that.

They do make some tasty stuff. I usually pass their usuals... but Smoked Porter is great. The specials are delicious too, such as Old Guardian barleywine... and, not to hype it, but their IRS will in fact put those beers to shame. It's simply amazing.
I've liked their past anniversaries... but 10th and 11th left me wanting... but so many people loved 10th, it must just not have been my thing. And 11th was interesting, just not for me. Vertical Epics are cool too.

Wow. I'm really going to have to to try and acquire some. Old Rasputin is one of my favorite beers period, let alone an Imperial Stout. All the rest of the ones I listed, I thought were excellent examples. Man, I hope we get some soon.

On a side note... you really liked the Siberian Night? I bought a sixer of it in Portland and dumped both bottles I've tried. It just seems like the flavor is flat and one dimensional. Yet, I see it's highly thought of by lots of people. (I'm really not digging on your taste, I'm just curious about the beer. Not trying to be a jerk who says "Ewww... you like THAT?"

Their barleywine is delicious. I just picked up a case of the 08 Old Guardian. It's fantastic, but I'm having a hard time keeping it out of the hands of my g/f

I did. I actually just tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was a pretty good imperial stout. Only thing I've tried from them so far. I have four other ones from them to review as well. I'll review my notes tongiht when I get home and give you my complete impression of it.
Even still, everybody can't like everything. I taken plenty of heat before for liking certain brews and not liking other more "prestigious" ones. Different strokes.

I def hear you on the different strokes tip. And, just for my own curiosity, I opened one of my last 2 Siberian Nights the other day and it was pretty good. Who knows, maybe I had a bad bottle or 2. Maybe I wasn't in the mood the nights I tried it before. But it is a fairly good IRS after this last try.
