Tried some new beers @ the Sunset Grill 1 Year ago

I was at the Sunset grill and tap in Allston, MA on Sat night and had the Ommegang-Ommegeddon and Oskar Blues-Ten Fidy Imperial Stout. Although people have been talking about the Ommegeddon needing 6 months or so to pick up some Brett character I tasted the wonderful tart, musty, earthy flavors right away. I thought it was refreshing and actually told my buddy who is mainly a wine drinker to have a taste and he loved it! He ordered it the rest of the night. Being a wine drinker myself, beers like this are perfect for the wine drinkers because it lends a lot of similar flavors in terms of the acidity, tartness, tannin, must, etc that is familiar to the wine drinker.
Also the Oskar blues Ten fidy was ok, I thought it was a bit rough around the edges it seemed imho a little sloppy with the flavors all over the place. Now it wasn't a drain pour by any means I just expected this beer to be better since the other beer from them are great. I will have to visit this again either in the can if available or again on tap. Anyone else have any new beers this weekend?

I actually tried a bunch of new stuff.
1. Picked up the Victory Festbier. Wonderfully malty and really smooth. Very light hop presence, which I like in and Oktoberfest. I was really impressed.
2. Butternuts Pork Slap Pale Ale. Yeah the name is ridiculous and I can't say I'd buy it again. It's a basic ale in a can, but it has a very odd mouthfeel. Sort of thick and slippery for a pale ale. I only had one can so I'm going to give it a go again but we'll see.
3. Brooklyner Hopfen Weisse - Holy shit this beer is amazing. The finishing and dry hops on this beer give it an outstanding aroma and spicy taste without overwhelming the yeast. This is by far the cloudiest and darkest weisse I've seen. Its opaque in color and looks almost identical to apple cider . This is a must buy beer IMO
And Franchise, to your point on the Ten Fidy, I completely agree, it doesn't do much for me, the flavors don't seem to align well, and there are just too many better Imp Stouts out there for me to order it, and I'm a big Oskar Blues fan

I couldn't agree more with all your notes, I love the Victory festbier, also I had the pork slap pale ale and it was more for the name than anything try their Hefeweizen if you get a chance it is in a green can their best offering imo.

I agree with all that, actually Devon! Also, had the Smuttynose Farmhouse Ale recently, really good! I've had it twice this batch... First time phenomenol, second time a little hot... but it may have just been that I paired it with buffalo chicken tenders.
I grabbed two of the Brooklyner Hopfen Weisse today... Can't wait to pop one! God I love that beer!
The Ten FIDY was a little bit all over the map. I love everything else by Oskar Blues, but the Ten FIDY was just good. Which, for most, is fine. I just expect more from such a great brewery.
OH! Also, I was in Portsmouth the other day and picked up two of the Portsmouth Brewing Company's bombers of Imperial IPA (they only bottle a little bit of each batch and it's sold only at their own gift shop I believe). That was GREAT! PBC is a sister company of Smuttynose, btw.
