It's no question the beer inside The Chapel is expensive, coming in at over six bucks a cup. So what's your spot before the Sox take the field? The classic spot is the Cask 'N Flagon, but it can be pretty crowded and hard to get a beer. Copperfields is less crowded, but it can be pretty easy about carding, so it sometimes has an underage feel to it. Boston Beerworks has the selection, but it can feel like more of a restaurant sometimes, which isn't always the best atmosphere before a game. Who's on First is nice and cheap, but it can also get pretty crowded. Game On! is new and looks cool, and I've never been there, but it's in the same building as the Park itself, which leads me to believe it is probably expensive. They've all got their pros and cons, and there's always the "Other" option if you prefer something else, like Jillian's or Pounding Cans of Beer in an Alley Off Lansdowne Street. Sooo... what's your favorite?

So I voted other, only because I think my vote is for Boston Billiards. Sure it's a little farther down the street, but miller light can be had super cheap @$2 a glass, and I won't lie, great beer is not my main objective when headed to the park.

Game on is indeed a little pricey at $4-5 a pint. They have an ok tap selection. Couple pete's wicked (rally cap of course) some sam adams offerings and the generic bass guiness etc.

I agree with beer works being more of a restaurant, though I do hit it up now and again before the game if I want food first.

No question cheap beer gets a free pass even for the most snobby of beersnobs on game day. There's something about a bud light in a plastic cup that makes me smile at 7:05. That being said, id even vouch to skip BBW for food pre-game. As cliche as it sounds, i really am a traditionalist when it comes to baseball, and that doesn't just apply to my disdain of astroturf-- i think when youre going to the park you gotta go to the sausage guy. its just what you do and i wouldnt feel right going to a game without it. (for those who are not familiar with 4 yawkey way, the sausage guy does a mean hot dog too-- my pig intestinal game food of choice)

The secondary purpose of this poll by the way, was so that I could brag about the fact that when i get back from school in colorado I will be going to the game my first night back on the 13th. yea, you probably all get more chances to go, but i have been out here all season and i am very excited about it. it will also be my first time at Fenway that i dont have to get my brother to buy me beers. god bless america.

Dare I say better than a fenway frank...a www hell, it's much better. Sausage guy rocks.

a Fenway Frank is a wonderful thing because it is what it is. but the fact of the matter its a steamed dog in a wonderbread bun. far be it from me to diss on anything Fenway, because it is the love of my life, and i love a good FF, but for those who dont have an appreciation for the not-so-finer things in life, ya gotta hit The Sausage Guy. you know The Sausage Guy has an actual store on Cambridge Street by Gov't Center?

Sausage... Guy... Rocks!!! I love that dude! The sausages are excellent, definitely better than Fenway Franks (mostly because they're 3 times as big). Honestly, I can't say I've ever been to any of those bars pre-game. I went to Cask n Flagon once, but nothing was going on, my friends just wanted to go. I'm going to have to vote "Other" and go with the Linwood... I know, it's down the street a bit, but I'd rather have a few awesome beers, and then begin my cheap light beer regiment. That's just me though, I hear where ya'll who don't do that are coming from.

Yea, i figured youd be difficult you bastad. i guess to make the "other" category not apply to any bar inside 495-- would it be fair to limit the "other" category to bars within short (10-15 min.) walking distance of the park? with extra points if they actually have an address on lansdowne, yawkee, or other street that passes directly by Fenway (not including the mass pike you assholes). basically, the distinction i want to make is that youre going to take the T to the bar, and walk to the game from the bar. (or walk to the bar if youre lucky enough to live that close)

And yeah I heard about the store. Haven't been yet.

also, not to change the subject and ruin the thread but--along those lines-- did you hear they are opening a two-level anna's taqueria on cambridge soon too? wow.

Hahaha, hey man, the Linwood is right near Fenway. It's right off of Boylston Street. Like, a 5 minute walk to the park from there... 10 tops if you're slow. It's on Kilmarnock St., which is a block from Yawkey. It's a great bar too. Awesome tap selection, often has rare stuff on tap. I recommend it, before game or whenever.

haha no no, its ok... i just know you like to be "different"... definitely going to check it out when i get back in a couple weeks. what about post-game? i think the post-game range has to be increased past the short walk range. like im thinking whiskeys, or things on boylston in the pour house neighborhood. whiskeys, specifically tho
