Pennichuck Brewing Co. Saint Florian Doppelbock Lager - Just Out Now

Pennichuck Brewing Co. Saint Florian Doppelbock Lager - Just Out NowDoppelbock is a Bavarian specialty beer first brewed by the 15th century monks and was considered "liquid bread." Doppelbocks were typically brewed to be sweet with a high-gravity to sustain the monks during the Lenten fast. Saint Florian has a rich golden carmel color with red highlights, notes of raisin and malty sweet aroma followed by a sweet and complex taste profile derived from imported Vienna and Munich malts and hints of dark fruit.

SERVING SUGGESTION: Saint Florian pairs well with dark chocolate, German cheeses, breads, or hearty meat or game. Cellar @ 40-45F and serve 45-50F in a flute, pilsner glass or mug.

Baird Beer Temple Garden Yuzu Ale - Coming Soon

Baird Beer Temple Garden Yuzu Ale - Coming SoonThe spicy aroma and tart flavor of Japanese yuzu fruit, picked at a local temple garden, define this other-worldly brew. A luscious kiss of malt sweetness serves as a wonderful balance to the citric tang. This inspired ale surely is proof of the existence of a higher being. "In the simple geometry of the temple garden there is barely hidden depth and complexity." Kampai!

Baird Beer is brewed at the foot of Mount Fuji by Japan's pioneering craft brewery. Lovingly and authentically crafted, it is unfiltered, re-fermented in the bottle, and naturally carbonated.

Baird Beer Angry Boy Brown Ale - Coming Soon

Baird Beer Angry Boy Brown Ale - Coming SoonProduct of Japan

Beneath the cool facade of the warrioer, a red-hot flame of intensity, determination and, yes, anger burns. So it is with this unpredictable Brown Ale: fleeting malty sweetness and warmth hide complexity, a barely controlled bitterness, and, naturally, a bit of an angrey edge. You're really got yourself into a situation now. "Anger is energy. Use it, then let it go." Kampai!

Baird Beer is brewed at the foot of Mount Fuji by Japan's pioneering craft brewery. Lovingly and authentically crafted, it is unfiltered, re-fermented in the bottle, and naturally carbonated.

Samuel Adams Hop Sharing Program

In a surprising, but quite amazing, announcement, Boston Beer Company (makers of Samuel Adams) Founder Jim Koch has announced that the compnay will release 20,000 lbs of hops on to the market that they have from the 2007 harvest to help with the supply issues being faced by many craft brewers. And they will be selling at cost. Here's the announcement:

Subject: Boston Beer Hop Sharing

For a couple of months now, we've all been facing the unprecedented hops shortage and it's affected all craft brewers in various ways. The impact is even worse on the small craft brewers--openings delayed, recipes changed, astronomical hops prices being paid and brewers who couldn't make beer.

So we looked at our own hops supplies at Boston Beer and decided we could share some of our hops with other craft brewers who are struggling to get hops this year. We're offering 20,000 pounds at our cost to brewers who need them. Specifically, we are able to spare 10,000 pounds of East Kent Goldings from Tony Redsell, a top English grower featured by Michael Jackson in Michael Jackson's Beer Companion (page 75 has a picture) and 10,000 pounds of the German Noble hop Tettnang Tettnanger from small farms in the Tettnang region in Germany. These are both type 90 pellets from the 2007 crop and are the exact same hops we brew our own beers with. We're not looking to make money on this so we're selling them at our cost of $5.72 a pound plus $.75 a pound to cover shipping and handling for the Goldings and $5.42 per pound plus $.75 a pound to cover shipping and handling for the Tetts. They're packed in 22# foil bags, boxed four bags to a box in 88 lb. boxes and will be shipped from cold storage.

The purpose of doing this is to get some hops to the brewers who really need them. So if you don't really need them, please don't order them. And don't order them just because we're making them available at a price way below market. Order them because you need these hops to make your beer. We're not asking questions, so let your conscience be your guide.

A few mechanics--until we know how much need there is, we've put a maximum out there of 6 boxes per brewer, which is 528 pounds. You can order less in 88 pound increments. You pay shipping. If we get more orders than the 20,000 pounds, we'll have a lottery. We will be putting the basic information to order, some faqs and the actual offer on our website www.samueladams.com in the next day or so, probably no later than Tuesday. Look for "Hop-Sharing Program" on the front page of the site.

We hope this will make brewing a little easier for those hardest hit by the hop shortage.

Jim Koch, Boston Beer Company

This is a great move by the company that has already received praise from a couple smaller craft breweries on industry forums. Hopefully this will help those in need of hops weather this tough time.

What do you think about this? Discuss it on our Forum topic titled "Samuel Adams to Share Hops with Craft Brewers."

From all of us here at Founders, to all of you:

AFTER PARTY!!!
Join us afterwards for a evening of great beer and music from Back Forty!

A Word from the Prez:
"Our new facility is finally at full brewing capacity, taking Founders from 5,000 barrels to 12,000 barrels annually.  We brewed to capacity all January and should realize full packaging yields in February.  We want to thank everyone for being patient during our transition as a lot of you most likely ran out of Founders products.  We do expect to have a lot more product on the shelves starting this month and forward.
Keep in mind that March brings the annual launch of Kentucky Breakfast on the Ides of March (15th).  The beer aged exceptionally well in the barrels this year and all indications from early samplings show that it will be one of the best vintages to date.  As usual very limited production means get it fast while you can.  Join us on the 15th at the Taproom for our annual Kentucky Breakfast launch party as we celebrate with live entertainment and of course plenty of Kentucky Breakfast Stout.
Finally, if you haven’t stopped down to check out the new digs, please do.  The Taproom has the same laid back atmosphere of the old facility packaged in a much larger “beer hall” feel.  Good food, music and of course outstanding beer is what it’s all about!
Thanks again for the patience the last few months and looking forward to good times in the future."

Cheers,
Mike Stevens
President – Founders Brewing Co.

Bell's Brewing Company Smoked Stout - Coming Soon
BellWell... No information provided on the label, besides the fact that it's a Smoked Stout. Weird, Bell's coming out with a stout? Who would've guessed? Not that we're complaining, though. They make some of the best stouts out there! I still want to go back to Michigan just to get more Expedition Stout!
