Part of their High Peaks Series... From the label:
Mt. Marcy, Skylight, Algonquin... Majestic Adirondack High Peaks - They are the inpiration for our "High Peaks" series. A line of beers that are bigger, more complex and flavoerful: Beers that are meant to be sipped and savored. The second in our series, Saranac Imperial Stout, is brewed with eleven malts to balance a delicious chocolate and coffee roasted flavor with the spicy herbal character of the generous kettle and dry hops. At 50 IBUs this beer captures the essence of the Adirondacks. Enjoy!
We love Imperial Stouts, so can't wait to try this one! Hope we get it in Boston!
Looks like Saranac's Scotch Ale is making a return!
It seems like this hasn't been available for several years. We'll see how it is this go around.
From the label:
Ever heard a bear play bagpipes while loons sing along? Neither have we, but we can bet it would sound really cool, that is if the bear could play "WIld Mountain Tyme" while dancing a reel. This Scotch Ale is a full boddied, malty-sweet ale. True to Scottish brewing tradition, the malty flavor and deep copper brown color are a result of the plentiful use of Scottish two row malt and a wee bit of roasted barley.
FLYING DOG BREWERY READY TO CELEBRATE “DOGTOBERFEST” Denver, CO – August 10, 2007 – Denver’s Flying Dog Brewery is set to release their Fall seasonal Dogtoberfest. The Denver-based brewery’s third seasonal of the year is a traditional-style Marzen, brewed with 100% imported German ingredients. Dogtoberfest’s grist includes a mix of Light and Dark Munich and Vienna malts. It’s hopped with German Perle and Hersbrucker hops and is lager fermented.
Flying Dog’s Head Brewer, Matt Brophy says that Dogtoberfest is unique from other Fall seasonals, “We use a blend of five different German malts to give this lager a complex and satisfying malt character. Combined with our proprietary yeast strain, it strikes the perfect balance for the style”.
According to Flying Dog’s Director of Marketing, Neal Stewart, Fall seasonals are especially popular, “There are a lot of great seasonals brands available around this time of year and Dogtoberfest has historically been our most popular seasonal. I think a lot of that has to do with people experimenting with darker, malty beers as the weather starts to cool off again.”
Dogtoberfest is available throughout September and October in six-packs at your local grocery or liquor store and on draft at bars across the country. Dogtoberfest is part of Flying Dog’s “litter of ales” which currently includes nine brands and three other seasonal selections.
About Flying Dog Flying Dog is Denver’s largest brewery and the second largest craft brewery in Colorado. Their award-winning “litter of ales” are available in 45 states. The Brewery is located at 2401 Blake Street, just 2 blocks north of the baseball stadium. Free tours are given weekdays at 4pm and Saturdays at 1pm and 3pm. Hunter S. Thompson, the infamous gonzo journalist, had a hand in the brewery’s development, and the beers are easily spotted thanks to Gonzo artist Ralph Steadman, the packaging designer. Well, having tried one small sample of this beer ever here at DrinkCraftBeer.com, we're really stoked this will be bottled, as we just started getting the Port Brewing/Lost Abbey stuff in MA! Hope this one follows. From the label:
Our beer oozes all the hop goodness you would expect to find in a double IPA. In your nose, you will experience a citric hop quality which is balanced by a slight malt sweetness. The essence of a great double IPA is hops and as such the beer finishes with a pronounced spicy hop bite. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop-15 to make an appearance from time to time when space permits to brew this, one our favorite ales.

Mmmmm... We'll never complain about a west coast dIPA!
Another new seasonal from Southern Tier? NICE! From the label:
Pumking is an ode to Puca, a creature of Celtic folklore, who is both feared and respected by those who believe in it. Puca is said to waylay travelers throughout the night, tossing them on its back, and providing them the ride of their lives, from which they return forever changed. Brewed in the spirit of All Hallows Eve, a time of year when spirits can make contact with the physical world and when magic is most potent. Pour Pumking into a goblet-allowing it's alluring spirit to overflow. As spicy aroms present themselves, let its deep coppeer color entrance you as your journey into this mystical brew has just begun. As the first drops touch your tongue a magical spell will bewitch your taste buds making it difficut to escape the Pumking. This beer is brewed with pagan spirit yes should be enjoyed responsibly.
We here at DrinkCraftBeer.com want to extend our congratulations to the winners of the Great British Beer Fest's American Cask Ale Competition. We had some notable locals and friends win awards and would like to give credit to all! The results are:
Gold: Opa Opa - King Oak Milk Stout Silver: Gritty McDuff's - Gritty's IPA Joint Bronze: Gardner Ale House - Facelift IPA & Three Floyds - Romulus
Above: Dave Richardson, Award Winning Brewmaster at Gardner Ale House
Congratulations to Dave Richardson at Gardner Ale House, who we recently had the pleasure of sitting down with and sampling his beers! Opa Opa is always putting out good stuff as well. While we haven't gotten out there yet, their reputation precedes them. Way to go to probably one of the most heralded US breweries, Three Floyds! We will be speaking with them on our road trip in September. And, Gritty McDuff's, way to go! We will have to make our way up to Maine soon.
Anyway, shoot any of them a congratulatory email if you're so inclined, and tell them DrinkCraftBeer let you know!
New beer from Surly. I think they're label best describes it:
A traditional Oktoberfest bier from Surly? Nein! If you want one of those, grab your passport and head over to Munchen (bring us back some pretzels). Our Fest inspired beer is brewed with imported malted barley, rye, and a German lager yeast straing. We hop this beer with a single variety... and then we dry hop it. A single hop, dry hopped, rye lager bier? Ja!
Damn! This is the first, and only, reason I wish I lived in Minneapolis! Of course, this one comes in a 16 oz. tallboy can.
This beer uses wet hops... Glacier I'm going to take a flying leap and guess. I LOVE wet hop beers, so I'm looking forward to this! I'd love to have a delicious and readily accessible wet hop pale ale.
Looks like they're adding an Imperial Russian Stout to their Big Eddy line which already has a dIPA in it. Hopefully this may hit MA? I'd love to get something beyond the Sunset Wheat or whatever it's called.
From the bottle: This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.
