Beer of the Month Club Review - Amazing Clubs February

Hey all you craft beer drinkers! It's that time again! What time? New Beer of the Month from Amazing Clubs time! Yeah... we know, it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. But the beer... The beer tastes good. So let's get to it!

This month, we've got beer from Carolina Brewing Company and The Lion Brewery. Carolina Brewing Co. sends their Carolina Blonde and Low Down Brown, while Lion Brewery has their Steg 150 All Malt Lager and Stegmaier Porter. With that in mind, let's get to the beer!

And, like always, if you want to join this club go here: Click to Join.

Carolina Beer Company Carolina Blonde

Appearance: Very little white head that dissipates quickly. Light straw body that is slightly hazy.

Smell: Very mild aroma. There's just a little malt.

Taste: The beer starts out a little sweet and mildly fruity. Strangely enough, if you like wit biers, you may like the mild sweetness in this beer, it's reminiscent of the style. It ends dry, though. This would be a great beer for the summer! A good, dry lager would really quench the thirst, and the mild fruity sweetness makes it interesting. It would go very well with fruit salad.

The Lion Brewery Steg 150 All Malt Lager

Appearance: This is fairly dark for a lager, nearly red even! An off-white two finger head makes this look pretty appealing.

Smell: Hint of lager minerality. That's really it. This is super light in the aroma department.

Taste: Wow! This beer is clean, slightly malty, almost no hops. It tastes... like... beer. It tastes like a nice, clean, very basic lager. This a great example of a pre-prohibition lager! We can't think of anybody who wouldn't like this beer. It would be great for sessioning or for drinking after mowing the lawn... or just during the summer!  This is a wonderful example of why Beer of the Month Clubs can be fun. It's really easy to forget about simple and excellently executed beers sometimes. We probably would have skipped over this one in the store, but we're glad we got to try it!

Carolina Beer Company Low Down Brown

Appearance: Brown. It's a brown ale, what did you expect? The head is coffee with lots of cream.

Smell: We're getting some brown sugar at the beginning. It's a pretty nice smell.

Taste: It's a little lighter than expected... we almost wish it was a little more robust. I could use some roast towards the finishes. Also a little more sweetness at the end. It smells much lighter than we expected. It's almost a little sour, but we think it's just a mirage

The Lion Brewery Stegmaier Porter

Appearance: The last offering this month pours dark dark dark brown with a milk chocolate head.

Smell: The beer opens up with roast and semi-sweet chocolate... Basically we're thinking chocolate chips.

Taste: It's dry, just like a porter should be. At the end, it's almost a little chalky... don't take this as bad, it's pretty on point for style! This is a pretty nice porter! We're really digging The Lion Brewery! They're doing some great stuff over there! This is another good reason to get a Beer of the Month Club. You get to receive delicious beer from places you wouldn't normally be able to get it.
