He'Brew Jewbelation 9 5766 Review
As we discussed in Craft Beer Chanukah Night One, Shmaltz Brewing Company put out an 8-pack looking back at the 7 anniversary beers they've made so far, and included one special brew that is a mix of all seven aged in rye whiskey barrels. Well now it's time for Night Two of Craft Beer Chanukah, so here we go!
He'Brew Jewbelation 9 5766
Appearance: This brew is the darkest brick/garnet red we’ve ever seen. It looks clear, but is just so amazingly dark for a beer this red. A light tan head on top forms about one finger tall and quickly falls to a thin coat and wisps on top.
Smell: This is a mild smelling beer, with malt and fruitiness as the main aromas. There’s a hint of dark cherry or raspberry in Jewbelation 9, possibly from the yeast.
Taste: Whoa. This beer is more bitter than we expected, but it seems to be a grain bitterness! It’s full and fruity on the front of the tongue, but finishes much dryer and almost chalky on the back. The alcohol shows through if you hold it in your mouth for a second, but at 9% abv that’s to be expected. The aforementioned fruitiness is quite prune-like, or maybe the effect you get from fermenting raisins in beer. All together, this is quite an interesting beer with fruity, mildly sweet beginning and a very dry, nearly chalky finish where the grain gets a little harsh even. Night two down, six to go. L’Chaim!
Hope you're having a great holiday week, if you celebrate Chanukah, and come back again tomorrow night for Craft Beer Chanukah Night Three!

For their 14th anniversary, Shmaltz Brewing Company is releasing an 8-pack of their craft beer featuring their He'Brew anniversary brews going back to their 8th. Each has been rebrewed to give you 7 bottles to look back into time with. The 8th bottle? Well they've gone and blended all 7 beers and aged that in Rye Whiskey barrels. Then they threw in a free glass and some menorah candles so that you can use the bottles to celebrate Chanukah after you're done drinking them.
We here at DrinkCraftBeer figured what better way to feature these eight craft beers than in a special series of articles featuring one each night for the eight nights of Chanukah? So, with that said, here's Night One of Craft Beer Chanukah:
He'Brew Miraculous Jewbelation 8!
Appearance: Pours a dark, dark opaque brown (but it’s definitely not black) with a creamy, thick 3 finger head the color of a regular coffee.
Smell: This beer is roasty malt and coffee aroma. Like a big, toasty brown ale, this beer smells smooth and creamy. The malt is definitely the star in the nose.
Taste: And the smoothness carries through to the mouth, this beer is just silky with mild carbonation. There are notes of bittersweet chocolate in the taste. Very little hops in this one, this is a great imperial brown ale. Cocoa lingers in your mouth long after swallowing, leaving a pleasant aftertaste. Despite being 8% abv, the alcohol is nowhere to be found in this one. Great for a chilly day, this is a great way to warm up for the first night of Chanukah. L’Chaim!
Check us out tomorrow night for Night Two of Craft Beer Chanukah!

We started out this series with Wacky Craft Beer Gifts Guide: Stocking Stuffers, but we know many of you craft beer lovers have pets that you love too. If we’re finding eclectic craft beer gifts for the special people in your life, how can this series possibly be complete without us also finding just the thing for Fido? Some of these items can even help you enjoy a craft beer while playing with your pet, which is ultimately the best of both worlds. Hope you enjoy our Wacky Craft Beer Gifts Guide: Pets!
A good owner always makes sure his or her dog is fully up to date on shots, licensed and all of that. And what better way to show off that you’re a responsible pet owner than on the dog’s collar? But, while you’re at it, why not show off your love of craft beer also? This collar from Victory Brewing Company proudly proclaims that your dog (or at least his owner) loves Victory Brewing! But, if you’re one of those types that always has your dog with you but never an bottle opener, maybe you should consider this collar from Terrapin Brewing. It comes complete with a bottle opener on it, proving that a dog really is man's best friend!
Now a collar is all well and good, but sometimes you need to make sure you keep your dog on a short leash. Guess what? There are breweries that make those too! We recommend this leash from Magic Hat. In brown and olive, it stylishly states: I’m a responsible dog owner... so feel free to invite me to have a brew with you. Also, guys, we all know there’s no better way to pick up a girl than with a dog. Reel them in with the pup, then let them know you have good taste with the leash.
Once you’ve safely got your dog to the park, or wherever you’re going, you’re going to need to let it blow off some energy. A good round of Frisbee is a great way to get your dog’s heart rate up and you get some exercise too (craft beer is full of calories, after all, so exercise is important for all of us... but we’ll cover more of that later). Check out this flying disc (it’s a Frisbee, but not Frisbee brand) from Long Trail Brewing Co. Nothing but the finest for your dog!
All this writing about walking and playing with dogs has gotten us hungry. After you take your canine out, he’s sure to be famished too. You don’t have to wait until you get home, though, to give him a quick snack or drink. These collapsible portable dog bowls from Terrapin Brewing Co. allow you to get your pet some food or water anywhere, say, if he's lucky enough to join you on the patio at your local craft beer bar as you enjoy a well earned pint!
Now that craft beer stocking stuffers and Fido are taken care of, we’ll be on to bigger gifts in the next articles, so stay tuned!
